A cabinet door that hangs low or bumps its neighbor can make a usable kitchen feel worn out. For Lee’s Summit homeowners, the first question is whether the door needs adjustment or whether the material supporting the hinge needs repair. Those are different jobs.
Describe what happens when the door moves
Does the door sag only when open, sit unevenly when closed, or refuse to stay shut? Photograph the whole cabinet and the inside of each hinge. Note whether one door is affected or an entire row has changed. These details help separate an isolated hardware problem from a wider cabinet issue.
Look at the attachment, not just the hinge
A hinge adjustment cannot solve an attachment point that no longer holds securely. Ask the repairer to check the screws, mounting plate, door, face frame, and cabinet side. Repeatedly tightening a loose screw may leave the underlying problem unresolved. Avoid guessing at longer screws where the material thickness and nearby components are unknown.
Check the cabinet’s condition before ordering parts
Swollen material beneath a sink, a cracked frame, or a loose cabinet box changes the scope. Document any moisture and have its source evaluated before cosmetic work. Replacement hinges also need to fit the existing door and cabinet arrangement; a similar-looking hinge is not automatically a suitable match.
Agree on the finished result
Ask whether the quote covers hardware, attachment repairs, door alignment, closing action, and any visible finish work. If a matching part is unavailable, discuss whether paired doors will need different hardware and how the appearance will be handled. Repairing one door should not leave an unexplained mismatch.
Our Lee’s Summit handyman and carpentry services cover related household repair needs. Include the number of affected doors and any markings on the hinges when describing your project.
