A dent, nail pop, or small hole often needs only a careful patch. Larger or recurring damage may require removing part of the drywall and correcting the problem behind it first. The right repair depends on the cause—not simply the size of the mark.
Patch small, dry, stable damage
Minor holes, shallow dents, isolated nail pops, and narrow surface cracks can often be patched. A smooth result still requires proper filling, sanding, priming, and paint blending. If a crack returns, grows, or follows a diagonal path, investigate movement before covering it again.
Replace soft or contaminated drywall
Drywall that feels soft, crumbles, bows, smells musty, or shows repeated staining should not be cosmetically covered. Locate and repair any roof, plumbing, condensation, or exterior leak first. Damaged material may then need to be cut back to sound drywall and replaced.
Check what is behind the wall
Electrical wiring, plumbing, insulation, and framing may sit behind the damaged area. Before cutting, determine what caused the problem and what could be in the work zone. Extensive moisture, suspected mold, structural movement, or electrical concerns call for the appropriate specialist.
Plan for texture and paint matching
The patch is only part of a finished Lee’s Summit drywall repair. Matching orange-peel, knockdown, or another wall texture takes care. Older paint may have faded, so painting from corner to corner can produce a cleaner result than touching up one small area.
